Artist Statement
If joy were an object, what color would it be? Red? Perhaps yellow would feel more fitting. Going about my day-to-day, different colors in the world catch my attention: the colors of cars, the sky, in nature, street signs, traffic lights, and much more. Bold, rich colors are attractive and catch my attention more than other elements of art. Colors aren’t just pretty or eye-catching; they invoke feelings, thoughts, and reactions. A room with dark green walls feels relaxing, while a room with orange walls feels energetic and intense.
In my work, I use the powerful nature of colors to invoke peacefulness, energy, or excitement. My aesthetic involves vibrant blocks of color, deep contrast, and realistically portrayed subjects. I use mediums such as photography, oil pastels, acrylic paints, and glass.
When choosing my subjects, I consider what I wish to have a deeper remembrance of. I depict forests, oceans, people, and objects relevant to me in my work. Cycling through the stages of my artist process allows a deep bond to form between the subjects and the memories associated with them. My portfolio is an album of my life.
